Declutter and Detox

It's pretty popular to talk about getting healthier or clearing out clutter at the start of a new year. For one, we usually fill our bodies and homes with lots of stuff, some of it junk over the holidays. And, I don't know anyone who doesn't like to make a fresh start. Fresh starts for me include starting with less stuff, whether that's in my body or in my home.

I want to start doing a new "emphasis" every month on the blog. It may be something within my home, with fitness, a craft or maybe even spiritual. But, I want to start having a new focus every month. This month I chose to declutter and detox.

A few goals I have set for myself in January:

 Our Home
  1. Organize the toys- we got so many new toys for Christmas
  2. Get rid of at least 5 trash bags of stuff (clothes, toys etc)
  3. Organize and keep the garage/storage room cleaned up
  4. Keep the table in the laundry room free of clutter

Physical
  1. Be mindful of the processed foods I'm eating...and eat less!
  2. Drink at least 74 oz. of water each day (Check out the App Water Your Body)
  3. Cut way down on the sugar intake
  4. Exercise at least 10 minutes per day (baby steps people!)
  5. Stretch daily

Spiritual
  1. I have made a commitment to read the Bible through in a year. I'm already going strong on that one!
  2. Spend time praying for other people every day
  3. Be mindful of my attitude and how I say things
  4. Have a quiet time at least 3 times per week (more baby steps)
  5. Spend time in prayer every morning BEFORE doing anything else

I think that if I'm able to start doing these in January it will be easier to carry them out the rest of the year.
I'll let you know how I'm doing in a few weeks

With love,

  1. I like these goals. They are tangible and if you can start healthy habits now, hopefully they'll stay with you throughout the whole year. I may just borrow some of these!

  2. How has this been going for you now that January is almost over?

  3. Thanks for asking! I've decluttered a lot and done a good job at keeping our typical "junk areas" clean and organized. So far I've been able to get rid of about 3 trash bags of stuff. I'm exercising more, but not every day. Most days I do pretty well with my water intake and I do think more about the foods I'm eating.
I'm still on track to read the Bible through in a year. I don't get to have a quiet time as much as I would like, but I am spending more time in prayer throughout the day. I didn't get them all at 100% but I'm pretty happy with how I'm doing so far. I'm so glad you checked up on me :-)
