Boys with Glasses...

Jackson has had his glasses for almost 18 months now. He does great with them and I think he looks fantastic in them too. This morning I was cooking breakfast and I heard him mumble "those kids made fun of my glasses yesterday". The spatula almost fell out of my hand as my mouth fell open. I asked him where??? He told me that it had happened at church. At this point he was starting to tear up...I might have been just a little bit too.

I asked him a few more questions about what had happened and by this point I could tell he didn't want to talk about it anymore. I couldn't believe this had finally happened. I've been waiting for the day that some kid would make fun of my boy for wearing glasses, but I wasn't expecting it so soon. Jackson has always been the sensitive, sweet, caring for others type of kid. It breaks my heart that someone would make fun of him.

I immediately called Jordan and told him what happened. Do you know what his first words were? "Well, did you pray for them"? Pray for who I was thinking, but I knew. Because I have an awesome, scripture reading, God-fearing husband, I knew exactly what he meant.

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you-Matthew 5:44

So I went to Jackson and we prayed for the kids that made fun of him. We prayed for God to bless them and change their hearts. We prayed that Jackson would be able to overlook this and know that his true identity comes from Christ and not from what others say about him.

For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.-Ephesians 2:10

I know that this will happen again and is just a part of life. I know that not everyone will see my kids like I see them. I want Jackson to be able to brush it off because of who Jesus says he is. I hope he can learn to do that a lot earlier than I did.

  1. I think I just cried too! You have a wise man ;)

  2. Oh. This broke my heart. I hope I can remember to do this when people tease my kids.
