First Camping Trip of the Year

If you know our family, you know we get pretty pumped about doing anything outside. Camping, kayaking and fishing are our favorites. I'm also a fan of mowing, landscaping etc... but Jordan prefers to leave that sort of "work" to me. I still can't even try to explain how I find those sorts of things fun.

We had been planning a kayaking/camping trip for several weeks (we are SICK of being indoors). So far it's been too cold or rainy to do much. This weekend looked like it was going to be pretty nice so we decided to go. Friday started out great. It was pretty warm, the river was moving fast and we caught a lot of fish.

We saw beautiful things like this...

and the boys goofed around...

Jackson played along the river...

We got to our place to setup camp. Jordan found an island/peninsula (depending on the water level) that is perfect to camp. We relaxed, cooked dinner (hotdogs and smores of course) and then settled into the tent to watch Frozen, which Jordan had rented on his tablet. You know, can't get too far away from technology!

It was pretty ironic that we watched Frozen because that seemed to be the theme of the night. It was  a LONG night! It got pretty cold, and since we don't have a lot of room in the kayaks for huge sleeping bags, we made due with the ones we could carry. I made the executive decision that we are going to invest in some small, down sleeping bags rated for colder temps. Jordan just said we weren't going camping unless it was between May and September. Either way, we got really cold.

Even with the cold we had a really good time and made some memories with Jackson. With him having two sisters I think it's important to get out and do a few things like this on his own every now and then. A big thanks to my Mom for keeping the girls!

  1. That looks like a really fun weekend! This encourages me to do things on their own with each of our kids.
