Leaning on Him

Parenting is hard. Mothering is hard. Homeschooling while keeping little ones happy is hard. I usually only voice my thoughts on these issues to my husband. I just don't like having these conversations with even my closest friends. I guess it's my pride or maybe just not wanting to complain, but it really is hard.

I have no doubt in my mind that we are doing the right thing for our family. Having babies, homeschooling, being a stay-at-home mom... I feel a peace about it all, but at the same time feel like a failure on a daily basis. But, there is something I have realized... no amount of blogs or Pinterest boards can help me. My one and only saving grace is Jesus Christ. I want to show Jesus to my babies. Grace, love and discipline are things I want to impart to them.

Psalms 121:1-3 NASB
I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber.

Psalms 62:5-7 NASB
My soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be shaken. On God my salvation and my glory rest; The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God.

It took me a long time to understand how to apply these verses to my life. It's hard to find refuge in God and lean on Him. It's so much easier to overreact and lose your temper. The only way is to constantly be focused on God and studying Him. I still have so far to go in this area, but when I start my day with that it sets a different tone in my house. I'm so much more capable of being a good mom when my heart is in the right place.

I just wanted to share this in hopes that another mom might read it and get something from it. Our kids are only this age once. We only get a few chances to teach them positive things, and believe me, they pick negative much more easily than positive. Parenting is hard, but I don't want to have that attitude every day. For me, it helps to not constantly be pointing out that we are smack dab in the middle of a hard moment (or a whole month of hard moments). For others I know that is a way of release and de-stressing, but for me it only adds to it. It helps so much more to look to the God and lean on Him.

  1. LOVE this!!!!! I too have days where I feel like a complete failure and as you said its so nice having God right there with me to pick me up from these days!! ;) You are doing an awesome job!!

  2. Oh, thank you! I really needed to read this today!

  3. Thank you for sharing this Amanda. You are right that this stage of life IS hard but that isn't what we should be focusing on. We should remember to always run to God, and thank you for the timely reminder.

  4. hi there just wanted to give a shout out because I noticed you and I have the same name! I'm not married yet though, I have Twitter as well and I plan to check out your website. Be Well and have a lovely day. Namaste. P.S Oprah and Deepak Chopra are doing another FREE 21 day meditation and there's an app for it too now apparently. I hope that can help you de-stress. You are very beautiful and have a good looking family! I wish you the best. -Amanda Money XO
